hello all. Im a martial artist and I workout at the gym often. I want to stay toned and keep my muscles hard and lean. My diet basically focuses on protein meals and fruits and vegetables. But still I do need to eat some carbs for my workout and to get energy not to mention I crave for some complex carbs too. Is it ok to eat white Rice? and what about eating bread because I love bread lol...im really confused some tell me they are not healthy to eat :(

White rice has almost no calories from fat but does contain the carbs which should be ok for you since you get plenty of exercise. Although brown and wild rices are better as far as carbs. 10 million people practically live on white rice they can't be wrong. Rice is still a grain cereal and is very good for you. There are differences in good carbs and bad carbs. The good ones are the complex carbs.

No, sorry, white rice and white bread have virtually no nutritional value whatsoever. In the milling process they have had all the good stuff, fibre and the husk of the kernel (the best most nutritious part) stripped to give them their white shiny appearance. Although they may appeal to people's taste buds, they little more than weigh down your system. My mum calls them b*u*m glue !!! Wholegrain breads have a yummy nutty flavor and will sustain you energy wise for much longer and give you that satisfied full feeling. Ditto for brown rice. Also, you have the added benefit of the fibre filled value of both foods............ :0)

PEACE

its heaps better for your body if you opt for brown rice and wholemeal bread. carbs are essential to our bodies (especially if you excercise alot!) the more unprocessed carbs are (ie more natural) the better they are for you. they have a lower GI (meaning they dont cause a spike in your blood sugar leaving you to crash later) and they keep you feeling full for longer!
