Potassium pills are really not worth your time. They contain such a small ammount of potassium you would have to take tons to get the effects you want. Basically, without using too many "scientific" terms, this cramp happens when you don't have enough potassium or energy to open the "gates" and let the muscle relax.
FIRST OF ALL, when it happens make sure you pull the muscle in the opposite direction of the cramp to relieve it faster. (pull your toes toward your knee.)
Leg Cramps can be caused by a lack of calcium, magnesium, or vitamin E. See your doctor to see if this is the case. Other causes could be dehydration or anemia (low iron levels.) Your doctor would have to check that too....
TIPS:
-Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Doctors recommend six to eight glasses everyday.
- Massage your muscles before going to bed.
- Stretch daily, before and after exercise.
- Maintain a well-balanced diet and eat foods high in calcium (such as milk and cheese), potassium (bananas and dates), and Vitamin E (spinach and sweet potatoes).
