Rule of thumb: Indoor cats 15-20 years. Outdoor cats 2-5 years. There are of course exceptions to every rule.

The longevity of a cat is generally 15-20 years but some cats have lived well up into the 20s.

The average lifespan for an outdoor cat is 7 years. For in indoor cat it's 12-15. But cats can live up to 20, maybe even add a couple years onto that in the rare case.

it depends on a number of factors- how healthy the cat is, is the cat overweight, etc. I had a cat that had to be put down to health problems at age 9 (suspected tumor, 50/50 chance that he would even make it through surgery and recovery), but have known of other cats that have lived twice that. Average age of a cat is between 12-16 years or so.

This comes up here a lot. I've heard of some cats living to 25 or so, but the average is probably about 15 years.

Everyone above is right, it just depennds on the cat. We had a cat growing up that was 20 when we had her put down. She acted like a kitten until about 3 days before she was put down. It just came on her so quickly. But I also had a cat that was only 11 years old when her body gave out and we had her put down. So I don't think there is anyway to know for sure it is just on a cat to cat basis.

It depends on how well it is taken care of. My cat is 17 and acts like she is 3. She is still running wild white the other cat that is 7. She will fly down the hall. Jumps around. She is funny. Not in any pain just a happy cat. She has been inside her whole life.

I've known cats to live 18 years. That's unusual, but many can live 12 to 15 years.

I cannot answer with exact numbers for the general cat population, but I have a cat right now that is on its 22nd year with me!! (my great goodness, but that is longer than my children have lived with me-and they moved out and live on their own, the cat is still here depending upon me for everything! he he). She is still an active and energetic cat, but has developed an attitude over the years, to the point of even telling our Irish Wolfhound who the boss really is!

I've been lucky: the 2 cats I've had in my life have lived long lives: Bonnie- 22 years old
Choper Bates- 20 years old
Neither one ever went to the vet!
