I renewed mine 2 weeks ago and I got it back after 5 days. So maybe now's the best time to do it as its a quiet time of year

It varies with the place you apply. No specific time can be said that will cover all locations, unless one wants to say up to a few months.
You should decide where you are going to apply for a renewed passport and ask them.

Last time I did it was via the Post Office and I had it back within 3 weeks. With the new laws I would advise ringing the passport helpline.

A few days, should be no longer than a week or two.
My last one came in 7 days.
You can get an emergency passport same day if required.

If you apply in person at the 'main office' in London it can be completed on the same day as the application otherwise it is dependant on the number of applications made to the regional office.

I did it recently at the post office, with their Check and Send service, and it took less than two weeks to arrive.
