To walk or stand for long periods of time is very painful. I need to lose about 70lbs. I see some machines advertised on tv and wondered if any of them would be of benefit.

Forget buying machines. The #1 exercize for weight loss is walking. You may have to build up to enough walking to make a difference. Weight loss takes time and dedication. Don't lose heart. Get your friends to join you. Go to good neighborhoods, parks, and malls to keep changing the view while you walk. This is a life-long avocation.
Check with your doctor about what is a good distance to start with. Also ask for guidlines on how long it should take you to lose the weight. Then ask for a consultation from a nutritioinist.
Get a step counter, and a cardio watch to find out how to set your pace.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

Get started today!

The Total gym is a good one and it is not really that expensive either. Instead of buying on TV try Walmart. Recently I saw one on sale there for about 200 dollars that would do you fine. Now if you can get someone to help you get it from Walmart to your house and set up it is a machine you can use daily which can allow you to work out without a great deal of pain on your knees. Good luck.

Swimming afcourse! It is the least straining on joints. Many community centres have water fitness classes you can join if you don't know how to swim. Are you taking any supplements to help with rebuilding your joint functions? This is also very important and will help you feel less pain when you excercise. Anti-inflamatory drugs have too many side-effects. I know many people, including my own mom who have been using some great natural organic remedies. E-mail me back and I'll get you a great source you can get over the internet!

It would be a good expenditure of your money.
I presume you are changing your eating habits? There are a lot of exercises which you can do in the seated, or prone positions which can strengthen your legs, and tone the muscles. You want to do some which will stregthen your back and your stomach.
God Bless. I am sure there will be many more qualified answers here.

Get an athletic brace to support your knee during workouts also try using a ball to do crunches and squats it provides resistance and a cushion until you get a bit trimmer and you knees get used to the impacts slowly. If it doesn't work it self out soon go see a doctor, you may have cartilage issues.

Swimming is an excellent exercise that is low impact. You might try regularly doing exercises laying on your back, like crunches, flutter kicks, and sit and reach. Gradual weight loss is the safest way, and is most likely to teach you to maintain healthy habits for life.

Swimming is very good for you & no impact & as you are in water you are lighter so it is also less stress on the body.
