people who believe in god fall into 2 camps the brainwashed and the indifferent
the brainwashed are those who were told about god when young and have never questioned it convinced they are right
the indifferent are those to whom it makes little difference exist or not they are concerned with more important issues

Mad as in "insane"? No. The belief in god is a very normal thing, not indicating any mental illness (after all, it's the cultural norm). It's simply false.
Uh-oh - look at Jazzfan's response. Now I've gotta drink at 7:30 AM. Sigh.
Jazz, what you wrote there is "Pascal's Wager", and it's an argument so full of holes there's barely any argument left to it. The fact that so many believers cite it here is a good demonstration that believers simply don't know nearly as much about religion and spirituality as non-believers do.

It is not my place to define madness. Humans are just flawed creatures... prone to inefficient and unnecessary actions and choices.
The concept of "god" is just one of those: a completely superfluous notion. That which can be effectively explained in this Universe can be explained consistantly without reference to any divine creator entity..... thus by Occam's Razor it is logical to assume at least for the time being that there is none.
But no, I would not say it is "insane" to believe in a god. Afterall, the standardised definition of sanity appears to be determined by the "mindset" (with or without a mind) of the larger portion of the populace..... and since so many humans seem to believe in a god, it cannot be mad.
Doesn't mean it isn't stupid.... but its not mad.... sorry. It could only be mad if they were a minority, and even then the term wouldn't mean much.

Actually, the more insane belief is to say that all this JUST Happened and there is nothing after we die.
I don't and will not use or express MY views, when speaking about God / His Word / His Son / His Abliities / His Authority; because according to His Word that would be breaking one of His Commandments --- "Do not commit Idolatry"
Don't forget He Created ALL things in, on, and around the planet as well. People seem to forget that there is a HUGE universe out there. Have you ever looked at the images the Hubble has taken?

It is not insane to believe in God. If it is possible for a being to exist who does not depend on any other being for its existence, then that being must exist as a logical necessity. That doesn't prove anything, but it does boil the issue down to two perspectives (neither of which is insane): either it is possible for God to exist, or it isn't. That makes the issue a metaphysical question, rather than a scientific question. A belief in God is not a scientific assertion that is subject to nominalism and/or materialism.

Hi Stacey. Think briefly about this. There is at least a 50:50 chance. One will be true, correct?
Now if God is not real and we all die and fade into nothing ness then non believers get what they believed for. Believers don't but at least they conducted their lives in hope and trying to lead better lives and help others.
However if it's the other way and the believers are right, then they go on to what they were hoping for, i.e. eternal life in Gods paradise known as Heaven.
BUT. the non believers, scoffers etc get what they don't want i.e.eternal separation from the source of Love and light. The Bible says that it is a place of weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Now if we're wrong we win. If we're right we REALLY win. But who loses? I leave the choice to you

I actually have not in any respect gotten mad because a Christian believes in god. I actually have expressed my righteous and maximum superb anger at the same time as Christianity is used as an excuse to abuse, at the same time as Christians attempt to legislate morality or say what non-Christians can and can't do depending no longer on the prevalent public sturdy yet on their e book. I actually have expressed my righteous and maximum superb anger at the same time as Christians lie about evolution, or lie about what their personal bloody e book says. I actually have expressed my righteous and maximum superb anger at the same time as Christians have attacked others for no longer being Christians. I actually have expressed the actual undeniable actuality that there is no longer a shred, no longer a molecule, of sturdy that Christianity has finished that could no longer both duplicated in different religions or countermanded by ability of the evil of the techniques of sin and salvation. yet I actually have not in any respect gotten mad at someone for believing in any god.

I guess that question could be turned around also. Do you really believe that life originated by accident in some primordial goo and then eventually turned into us? It really takes as much faith to believe in Evolution as it does Creation. Are you aware that there is no scientific explanation for the hypothesis of Abiogenesis or spontaneous generation? That there is not one example of a beneficial mutation in genetics, with an increase of knowledge, which is what evolution requires? Beneficial mutations are extremely rare, but they have been found. But never one that increased the knowledge of the parent gene. Almost all actually occur from a loss of genetic knowledge. Evolution requires one to have faith also.

If the universe didn't exist, there would be nothing, right? Apparently there is "something." How is it mad to think that "someone" made that "something"? Is it "sane" to assume that things just exist without an origin?
2 Timothy 1:7 tells us that, "God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

If God is a universal consciousness, then it is not insane to believe that He is the creative force from which all things spring forth and have their being.
