Liberty School - Cabernet Sauvignon
This is about $14 and is an excellent bottle of wine. It goes with many different dishes from light appetizers to complex meals like Osso Bucco. Many avid wine drinkers utilize this as a great everyday wine because of the taste and the price. By two, one for your gift and one for yourself. I promise it will not be the last time you purchase it.

I would suggest Greg Norman Estates Cabernet-Merlot 2003 - It's a great wine, highly rated for $15.
Another top choice would be Jacobs Creek Shiraz South Australian Reserve 2003 for around $15.
If you can't find either of these, Hawks Crest Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon is a nice choice that is produced in Napa and distributed throughout the US. It's $15 and tastes better than many Cabs that are much more expensive.

I'd get a decent bottle of Chardonnay. Whites are easier, as they are often drunk as aperitive, and also because they do not require ageing, so easier to choose.
I'd get a bottle of Chardonnay Fetzer (or a Fumé one), if you like stronger wines you can do a oaked chardonnay, a bit more powerful.
Don't forget to put the bottle in the fridge for at least 1/2 day before the party, so you can bring it already cold and ready to drink!!!

If you're in the mood for a white: Pino Grigio or Reisling
If you're in the mood for a red: Cabernet or Sangria (which is a blend of Cabernet and fruit juices)
Still can't decide? You can get a decent bottle of both a red and a white for around $10 each if you go to one of the big warehouse-type stores.

Take what you like to drink, try a few different kinds so you can recommend one. Talk to the person at the wine store, he/she can tell you about the tastes of different wines.
If you're truly taking it as a hostess gift, don't chill it because it will look like you expect to have it served at the meal, rather than as a gift for the hostess.

I would say because it is a brunch and there is bound to be a desert, to get a nice German Riesling. Even most non- wine enthusiast will love a sweet dessert wine such as a Riesling. You can pick any German Riesling as they tend to be a little sweeter than others.
