Further, if i were to compete, would my takedowns score points? I'm doing Judo mainly for the newaza, because BJJ is too expensive and far away from where I live.

Single-Leg and Double-Leg takedowns are fine, in fact, Double-Leg takedowns are called Morote Gari in Judo. However, the biggest difference is that in Judo, you have to make your opponent land on their back to score a full point. If you take them down to their knees you probably won't get more than a Koka (or minor point) if anything at all.

Also, keep in mind that Judo newaza in a match is really fast paced. You only get 5-10 seconds to achieve a position (pin or choke) before you are stood up by the referee.

Wrestling is a good background for Judo. You already have great mat instincts and you should be already good at newaza. I've trained with some wrestlers and they usually nullify my size advantage on the ground.

yeah most of the takedowns are legal. I don't know all the wrestling stuff so I don't know all of them. The double leg, single leg takedown are legal. The double leg be careful not to get caught in the guilotine.

The throws are different because the Gi has alot of grips and is easy to take hold of.

Good luck, I think it will be great for you. Also it will help your wrestling takedowns as well. If you keep an open mind you will find new techniques to use.

Not that I know a lot about Judo but in my opinion it seems like some amature wrestling moves could be countered easily with Judo. Just my opinion.

I'm not into Judo.

Based on what little I know about it, your take-downs are probably legal but Judo probably has counter-moves that would make them less effective than they were in wrestling.

Don't incorporate Judo into your wrestling,
incorporate wrestling into your Judo!

Judo is a great style, your instructor can tell you what is illegal and what is not. Your wrestling experience should help you though.

No. They're just seen as cheap and not really 'judo'.

What works, works though. Fireman's someone for me eh?
