They fear more lawsuits and a bad reputation.

They seem to want to maintain the old, "do as I say and not as I do" mentality.

For a long time the Catholic Church has reigned supreme in the christian religion in many of whats now called Third World countries and through fear kept these people under control especially in their giving to the church which made the Catholic Church overall the earth one of the riches entities available . Any bad publitity of individual bad behaviour of the exulted priests is not on as it could cut down on what comes in .

It isn't resisting. It is taking serious action to deal with the problem - which incidentally is no more prevalent in the Catholic church than anywhere else. The Church is also screening applicants to the seminary more closely, to avoid ordaining homosexuals, since that, not pedophilia as the secular press likes to call it, is the basis of the problem.

After getting rid of so many priests, I wouldn't call that 'resisting'.

Besides, it may interest you to know that pedophiles gravitate to jobs and positions that guarantee close contact with children . Thereby infecting Churches, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, SCHOOLS, and the like !!!

So I guess we should be asking, "Why does the public education system RESIST cleaning-up it's act regarding PREDATORY TEACHERS " !!!!!!

The first answer was the most nearly correct. The Catholic church has been in denial for most of its history about aberrant behavior in its priesthood. And it isn't the Pope doing it, it's the powerful bishops who don't want their income cut off.

Once the scope of the problem became apparent, the Church moved quickly, positively, and publicly to clean up the problem.

It is still in the process of doing so.

Most "religions" have predators, even muslims,hindus....but the population also have predators!
So the solution should be to ask:
"How best to control the sex urge?"
The answer is to take shelter of the One who is the controller of our senses:God!
Just by praying sincerely to Him,He will gradually help anyone to get rid of the slavery of sex,and replace it with true bliss of spiritual nature, much stronger than sexual pleasure.
2. By avoiding meat-eating,onions,garlicalcoolic drinks,it is also beneficial to control of sex urge.
3. Television and other medias also should be controlled as it influences mush our desire for sex.
