That your beliefs have no fundamental values?
Will you then, therefore, "tolerate" most anything?
Or will a point be gotten to where you will known as a fundamental, non-believer ?

godless, gets a , no duh? Always can expect answers from people that questions someone's understanding of different terms. That way you make yourself seem as though you are smarter then others. The question is straight forward and logical. Fundamental has a straight forward meaning. So instead of answering the question you come up with some "holier then thou" answer.

Angel of death, Yes you are correct about trying to jail a person for teaching "evolution" but to reinforce your argument you leave out the most important part of that argument. You are, no doubt, talking about the scopes-monkey trial. Interesting that until about 1975 it was all about monkeys. But after that "theory" proved to be not logical or even probable, then came the common ancestor story.
So by your own beliefs then, the scopes- monkey trial was a case that was properly brought forward. Since Scopes was teaching that we came from monkeys, an idea that even evolutionists today, have backed away from.
And, I must say that if and until science produces the smoking gun, many people simply will not believe it. And the
process named, "natural selection" is at best a dream invented by Darwin and at worst, "voodoo" science.
This is, of course, proven true by the scientists themselves. Each time a "discovery" is made they say, "this could be", or "possible evidence of."

And, Angel, There is a big difference between an investigation to find out just what happened, and what most scientists do as far as evolution goes.
They are looking for proof of what they believed to have happened which is why they almost always say, "this could be", "this suggests", "this may be a link", and other things which show that they are not looking for the truth of something but seeking to prove something that they already believe.
It is like a police officer searching for a suspect, catching him and then searching for a crime to pin on him.
sorry to go so long here. Thanx for your answer.

Actually the entire concept of the non believer would never allow them to become like the fundamentalist Christian. The non believer is what he is because of proof,it has not been proven to him empirically. The Fundamentalist Christian is an intolerant and unthinking creature who demands that every word of the Bible is the true word of God despite rewrites, multiple authors contradicting each other and Kings having the whole thing reshaped to fit their vision of the world. The fundamentalist has his silly book of superstitions and needs nothing proved and will not accept proof when it comes his way if it doesn't fit into his narrow worldview. I believe what has been shown and proven, and will accept changes if proof is presented that justifies those changes. The typical fundie will instead ignore proof and even lash out at the ones presenting the proof, that's why it could actually be a dangerous profession to be a scientist in any society ruled by it's religious beliefs.Hell even in this country we have tried to jail at least one in the last century for teaching evolution in the
schools. That trial all by itself shows the inherant difference between the fundamentalist and the non believer, fundies would rather attack the messenger than disprove the message. And in the area of science they won't even bother doing good science to prove their beliefs they just make it up as they go along since they believe that even if they're lying about the science of it,it doesn't matter because what they are professing in the end is the "truth".

That isn't how I use the word Fundie. Most people I know use it pretty much the same way I do. It's a slang word for Fanatic. Really has nothing to do with Fundamentalism in general. So, unless you are a Fanatic, then I doubt I would call you a Fundie.
As for Tolerating anything... I think you would be surprised at what most of us Non-Believers do tolerate. Online it's totally different, most people will become bold and mouthy online, to the point of even doing things they wouldn't dream of doing in the "Real World". I would have to say I tolerate a lot more BS on here than I do in the Real World. But then, we're not face to face either. =)
As a matter of fact, when I was a Christian, that's exactly what I was called.... a Fundie. But then, at that point in my life, I could make these people look like kindergartners.

Well, now you come to mention it, I'm not sure my beliefs DO have any fundamental value.
But isn't that true of any belief? They are after all, just opinions and who is to say one is more 'valuable' than another?
I think it's what you do with your beliefs that gives them 'value'. And whether there's a God in the equation is ultimately no measure of the value of a person's actions.
But do feel free to disagree, if you wish. It's only an opinion after all.
Live long and prosper.

Fundamentalist is a general term for radical intolerant and unaccessible adherers of an opinion or faith. There are fundamentalist christians, fundamentalist muslims, fundamentalist jews, fundamentalist satanists, there even might be fundamentalist atheists though I know no one.
In general, atheists are educated in critical thinking, that is to see things from several angles and to accept different opinions and theories on any topic, choosing their opinion for the better arguments. This of course is only an ideal, we're human and prone to mistakes, prejudice, and emotion like anyone else. And of course we have strong moral standards - but the source for our moral standards is no religion.
Anyway, thanks for spelling atheist correctly.

"fundie" is short for "fundamentalist", not "fundamental"
fundamentalism
1. (sometimes initial capital letter) a movement in American Protestantism that arose in the early part of the 20th century in reaction to modernism and that stresses the infallibility of the Bible not only in matters of faith and morals but also as a literal historical record, holding as essential to Christian faith belief in such doctrines as the creation of the world, the virgin birth, physical resurrection, atonement by the sacrificial death of Christ, and the Second Coming.
2. the beliefs held by those in this movement.
3. strict adherence to any set of basic ideas or principles: the fundamentalism of the extreme conservatives.
Doesn't apply to us, sorry.

If we can just decide what the word fundie is short for, I think it should be short for fundament. As in, if you are a fundie, you're a fundament.
(Look it up, eh?)
I prefer the term radical antisecularist myself. You know, like McVeigh and the 9-11 hijackers?

Hatred and intolerance is a curved sword--you cannot harm others without harming yourself.
You are trying to reach out, but they percieve you holding out a snake instead of a lifeline.
Please continue to reach out, but put more thought in how it can be perceived.
