October 24, 2003— Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) researchers have discovered that clays may have been the catalysts that spurred the spontaneous assembly of fatty acids into the small sacs that ultimately evolved into the first living cells.

Blah blah blah, first cells could catalyst from earth, also the fact that we're carbon based lifeform.

So, when the book says Adam was created from dust, do you take it literally or metaphorically from this?

How convenient.

The only connection between the two is that humans have long known that most of the surface of the earth is made of dirt... dust... clay... that sort of stuff. Since there is so much of it, trees grow from it and we walk on it.... it isn't a far reach to assume that some part of us came from it too.

It would be fairly difficult for it not to have happened since the whole world was effectively just dirt in the distant past.

That certainly doesn't mean anything in the bible has to be taken seriously.

Then the LORD God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being (Genesis 2:7).

This was a two-step process. First, the body of the man was formed from the dust of the ground. Second, God breathed into him the breath of life. Only at that time did he become a living being. This shows the spiritual nature is distinct from the physical nature.

That may very well be true and is very interesting. However, it has been proven that in the bible were it says that man was made from clay was a mistranslation and really translated to, man was an earthling not made of earth.

Good point. The majority of Christians believe that yes, the creation of Adam was literal. God breathed air into Adam, and made him a living creature.

...as you read from the "English" translations of the original Hebrew text (of which I truly don't believe you have unless you've convinced the Rabbi to open the Tanakh from the scrolls) you will see that what is written is a bit different then what you've learned... it's Ok... today's translations give a good and fair representation but they fall short of the words of God thru Moses... (but doesn't it give you a wonderful time to study Gods Word...?) ...by the way... take some dust of the ground and add some water...the liquid of life... see what your get... (not driveway dust).... go out into the field and see... Good luck with the Rabbi... it was a challenge for me too.... Shalom.

The God of the Bible says he formed the first human body "out of the dust of the ground" and this concept of human creation is repeated in other ancient writings. Whether he is saying he took natural elements and bioengineered the first man or actually made a model out of mud is a logical question. Evidence shows that the Elohim has the technology, but the specifics of creation of living things are not detailed. The solid evidence of a perfect method of producing perfect creatures living in perfect biospheres is in the results.

The human body is the finest multifaceted organism in the natural world. When coupled with the most complicated and sophisticated central processing unit ever devised, the human brain, it stands alone as the quintessence of living entities.

The body contains hydrogen, copper, zinc, cobalt, calcium, manganese, phosphates, nickel, sulfur, potassium, carbon iron, and silicon. The average human body contains enough: sulfur to kill all fleas on an average dog, carbon to make 900 pencils, potassium to fire a toy cannon, fat to make 7 bars of soap, phosphorus to make 2,200 match heads, water to fill a ten-gallon tank, and enough iron to make a 3 inch nail. The hydrochloric acid of the human digestive process is so strong a corrosive that it easily can eat its way through the iron of an automobile body. Yet, it doesn't endanger the stomach's sticky mucus walls. Smart people have more zinc in their hair. The body’s daily requirement of vitamins and minerals is less than a thimbleful.

The human body consists of about 60 trillion cells, and each cell has about 10,000 times as many molecules as the Milky Way has stars. Except for your brain cells, 50,000 of the cells in your body will have died and been replaced with others, all while you have been reading this sentence. Three hundred million cells die in the human body every minute. The largest cell in the human body is the female reproductive cell, the ovum. The smallest is the male sperm. The average adult has between 40 and 50 billion fat cells.

All of the DNA in an adult human body could fit inside one ice cube, but if unwound, stretched out and joined end to end, it would reach from the earth to the sun and back again more than 400 times. Scientists estimate that they could fill a 1,000-volume encyclopedia with the coded instructions in the DNA of a single human cell if the instructions could be translated to English.

♦ Genesis 1: (26) And God said let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. (27) So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Yhovah even said he made man to look like an Elohiym:

♦ Genesis 3: (22) And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

Yhovah declared that man had reached a level so close to the level of the Elohiym that he must be prevented from becoming an eternal being:

As further proof this is true, these verses show what destiny awaits mankind:

♦ 1 Corinthians 15: (42) so also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: (43) It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: (44) It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. (45) And so it is written, the first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. (46) Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. (47) The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. (48) As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. (49) And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. (50) Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. (51) Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, (52) In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. (53) For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. (54) So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

♦ 2 Corinthians 3: (17) Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

♦ Philippians 3: (20) for our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: (21) Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

Human are special creation of God to look like him.

hey, very intersting question,......since you put this one under spirituality and religion, i should answer you based on my personla belief on the HOLY BIBLE as this where the basis of your question came from.it is recorded in the book of Genesis chapter 2: 7 " And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul" ... so its a mere fact that we human are from the dust of this earth, why should i say so, it is again writtenin the Book, ...from dust to dust, ashes to ashes so does the man....will get to....alright and scientifically , earth substance are similar to those we can find in our physical body, so what im trying to point out here, it was not only metaphoricallly but literally , the Lord God created us humans (physically) from the dust of this earth, so from where we came from, we will literally came back, our flesh will soon decay and get back to dust but our soul will go to where it should belong. have a great day and God bless you! thanks for asking!! :)

metaphorically of coarse. the book of Genisis was written some 3000 years ago. it was not written to satisfy the scientific curiosities of how or when creation took place but simply to point out that God is responsible for the creating.
