Never safe. Chemical and bagteriological contents need to be assessed. High fluoride content can cause bone and teeth defects. Lead and arsenic contents can affect health. Diarrhoea, Dysentry are due to bacterial contamination of water. Hepatitis A infection which causes jaundice is an important water borne disease apart from so.many others. Best is to boil water before consumption. For community water source best is chlorination. Consult your nearest Public health Dept.

Drinking water that has harmful bacteria can make you sick. These bacteria can give you stomach cramps and/or diarrhea, as well as other problems. Water that has these bacteria is unsafe to drink!
The only way to make sure your water supply is safe to drink is to test it regularly. Testing for bacteria is done FREE. Water sample bottles are available at health unit offices.
How often to sample:
Dug Wells - at least 3 times per year.
Drilled Wells - at least once per year.
Well Points - at least 3 times per year.
Returning Your Sample:
1.Samples should be refrigerated after collection.
2.You should collect your sample on the day you deliver it to the Health Unit.
3.Sample and all forms must be submitted within 24 hours of collection.

Well water should be tested every year. I think if you check with agriculture district office they can get you a free test kit so you can check it periodically on your own. Plus you can install a water filter system into the house(I have one from Amway) plus a water softner because well water is usually hard and it makes it harder for soaps to clean your clothes. We had a well for a year and it worked out fine don't let people get you in a panic makes the tests or get a pro to do so.

There are two methods to decide the potability of water, i.e. Chemical and bacteriological examination of water. Unless you get the sample of water source examined chemically and bacteriology, you cannot decide whether the water is safe or not.

Go to "www.ewatertest.com". You can also do a google search for water testing and find other sites, but these people should be able to tell you what to do to have your water tested and also how to treat it if there is a problem.
