I don't see why not. Fluteman(www.webspirit.com)
has a lot of info on curing bamboo. You'd put
fine, moist mud between across the top between
the sticks as you lay each piece of bamboo a
frame made of any type of wood. Seasoned wood
I think. Every two pieces of bamboo you tie
together with twine on both ends. When the mud
dries it should act as a sealant(this is a design,
mind you, I've never done this). You could search
for information or lore about Amazonian tribal
engineering.(Amazon is also a river in
South America).

IT IS A LONG PROCESS THE "CURE-ING " PROCESS OF BAMBOO IT ALSO DEPENDS ON THE TYPE OF BAMBOO YOU ARE USING FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND IT INVOLVES HEATING THE OUTSIDE OF THE BAMBOO DRAWING OUT THE MOISTURE AND RUBBING IT BACK ONTO THE SERFACE!! TORCH OR FIRE! IT BUBBLES OUT... YOU REMOVE HEAT...RUB IT DOWN WITH A CLOTH.. AND SO ON !!! EVERY INCH!!! SO AGAIN.. IT IS
A LENGHTHLY PROCESS YOU HAVE TO CURE IT AS SOON AS YOU CUT DOWN THE BAMBOO SO HAVE THE FIRE READY BEFORE YOU START !!! RESEARCH (ON-LINE)THE TYPE OF BAMBOO YOU HAVE AND GO FROM THERE!!! THE CURE-ING METHOD MAKES THE BAMBOO LAST THE LONGEST COMPARED TO THE CLEAR COAT METHOD!!! THE PAITENCE WILL PAY OFF IN THE LONG RUN!!!

is your friend's dad expecting a roof that will keep out the rain? I don't see this happening...make sure your friend's dad understands that Gilligan's Island is not real life.

it doesnot protect from environment , if to be cared against rain and snow it should be lapping on each other when paving on the roof, lumbers should be placed on the supports enough to hold snow during winter summer does not need much supports but winter need enough lumbers supported.
