If you had a male five year old dog would you be better off getting a male or female puppy companion?

My older dog (a neutered male) was 9 when we got our male puppy! They are now 11 and two and get along great! It's how you train them.

I think getting a female puppy would be betta. A male puppy would try and dominate the older dog which could result a huge fights. A female won't try and be the boss whilst all male dogs try and be the dominant one.

My way of thinking...
If you get another male, the two are going to be like best friends, however if you get a female, your present male is going to take the big brother role and become very protective of her towards other dogs. So I would go with another male.

Go with a female because a older male might see the younger one as a threat and may not treat him as well as it would treat the female puppy.

Thats a tricky one,you need to think about it a bit.
If you get a female then you need to think, do you want them to breed if not she may need to be desexed or keeped in a different area when on heat,if you get a male then they may fight to see who the ALFA DOG and they can be nasty to see,keep in mind also any new dog needs to be introduced to the dog that was there first as he will see it as his territory and may not like or agree with a nother dog in his yard.
Im not sure what breed they are so i hope i helped a bit.

If I was in your situation. I'd probably get a female. Because a Male and Male would try to out dominant one another.

A male puppy, unless you want your 5 year old dog to commit illegal acts with some underaged "lady".

It all depends on the breed and temperament of your current dog. Whether he is neutered or not. How is he generally with other dogs and does he prefer male or female?

If your talking inside dog then probably female, males piss all over everything.
