To clarify your question, it isn't the religions by themselves that have adverse effects; its how they're interpreted selfishly by certain followers for their own personal interests. Christianity, Islam and all the other religions are beautiful, peaceful....its some Christians, some Muslims and some of the others out to create trouble, because somewhere, somehow they stand to profit out of causing misery.

The Crusades are a powerful example. The current Islamic jihadist trend is another. I'm sure various countries round the world have their own stories. Within India, for example. ethnocentric Hindu political parties have frequently instigated riots and terrible acts of destruction against minority groups in the country.

In the United States our laws are based on Christianity. The laws of God are how we interpret our laws of today. That is what makes United States so beautful. Freedom to choose. There is nothing more beautiful than freedom. Little by little we are giving up our freedom. God tells us you cannot serve
2 masters at the same time. If you do. You will love one and hate the other. The 2 masters are God and money. This is a big problem througout the world. People are suffering because of not having any money. People are making money a god.

Most religions, yes, even Buddhism, have had destructive effects on the world's population in the last two K years. The two you mention were both "spread by the sword", and are aimed at controlling the population in certain manners. The question of what would have happened without them is another can of worms entirely.

Sympathy for the Devil - Rolling Stones

Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith

And I was 'round when Jesus Christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that Pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate
