Well , in most of the cases depend on the company, if you are a professional pilot you will see that some companies they don t really care about safety, they make pressure on you to try to put as much as weight as possible and that means that they want you to take of with overweight, I had a very bad experience flying for 2 years in the Bahamas for a commuter company in which the owner call you if you want to leave luggage because you are overweight, and one day he fire me because I didn't want to carry 26 kids of 11 years old in an airplane with only 19 seats, that is totally illegal ;every passenger must have a seat and a seat belt except for babies.
He fire me 5 times and some of my friends were fire 8 times but because he didn't have pilots he hire you 5 min after!!! sounds crazy but it is true and similar like that there are a lot of companies all around the world ,and don't think that this not happen in U.S because you are wrong.
Those are problem that a pilot can have on ground plus family problems as everybody and then problems with the airplane that the maintenance is not properly plus weather problems plus delays etc etc
This problems you can find it in every country in the world but not in all companies.
Cheers

Mostly the FAA.

Then phrasing sentences for why he needed full power to taxi, why the number of take-offs is not equal to the number of landings, where to find the wreckage and all.

Seriously, he should not be encountering any troubles with his boss or colleagues if he is doing it right. And if he is a professional, he should not be bringing personal problems to work. This is a high responsibility job, professional maturity, technical competency and discipline are expected.

Nothing extraordinary. The same potential problems everyone else has involving bosses, co-workers.
The main thing I notice is marital problems because of the amount of time one spends away from home.
