In most cases, they're not AS effective, but they're good enough. They're just very slightly less effective (which is not the same as ineffective), which in most cases is more than good enough to achieve the same results for half the price.

Most of them are. However, there are some that are a little bit chemically different, meaning they react differently in the body so some can be less effective. Also, some manufacturers use different fillers for generic drugs rather than the ones they use for the brand name drug.
A lot of manufacturers of brand name drugs, make the comperable generic as well.. Its a way for them to capitalize and gain the market share before the generic can be released for others to replicate.
Most pharmacists will tell you that they are just as affective, however, even though they are supposed to have the same outcome, the difference in chemicals and fillers can have a different affect inside the body, so they can be less or even more affective depending on the person taking them.
I work in a pharmacy, and I will tell you, if you have cheap prescription coverage for brand name drugs, always opt in for them.
Drug retailers make such excellent money off of selling generic drugs that most people will always recommend generic. The pharmacy I work for forces us to always fill generic unless the patient "ASKS" for it. We can't even ask the patient if they want brand or generic. Pretty sad huh.. Well I hope some of that info helps.

yes, generic drugs are equally safe and effective and only cost much less than the branded ones. Branded drugs are more expensive due to the innovators cost as well as costs of marketing. Generic drugs are more of 'copycats' that do not invest in the innovation or drug discovery but are equally effective for the patient.

Yes generics are as safe and effective as brand name drugs alot of the time. The reason I say "alot of the time" is because there are some drugs that are more effective for treatment of something such as antibiotics for infections.

Health Canada regulates all generic products under strict safety and efficacy guidelines, requiring the same testing as the branded product to ensure that the generic version is interchangeable with its branded counterpart.
For both brand name and generic drugs, Health Canada works with pharmaceutical companies to assure that all drugs marketed in Canada meet specifications for identity, strength, quality, purity and potency. In approving a generic drug product, Health Canada requires the same tests and procedures to assure that the generic is interchangeable with the brand name drug under all approved indications and conditions of use.

generic drugs have the same ingredients medication as the name brand the gen brand has fillers though that do not agree with some peoples systems and gen brands is not what you think when companies produce say asprin and they were the first company to make and produce this med. they hold the brand name after 7 years company like bayer can start making their own asprin and call it something else it has all the same ingredients with one or two fillers.
