It depends on the terms of the ticket, there are 1 week open ticket, 2 weeks open ticket, 1 months, 3 months, 1 year or any time period the airlines can think of.
The terms of the ticket will determine the ticket price. Ticket with longer validity will be more expensive and open ticket will be more expensive than fixed date ticket.
You should check with the travel agent which you bought the ticket from or just call the airlines and quote your ticket reference no.

A normal air-ticket validity is 4 months sometimes 6.
So you have to check with the airline, exactly how long its valid for.
