The subcutis is the layer of tissue directly underlying the cutis. It is mainly composed of adipose tissue. Its physiological function includes insulation and storage of nutrients.

Subcutaeneous injections are given by injecting a fluid into the subcutis. It is relatively painless and an effective way to administer particular types of medication

subcutaneous means underneath the skin which is few mm thick n beyond that lies all the adipose tissue or fatty tissue n then come the muscles n their sheath the injection here becomes intramuscular. subcutaneous tissue consists purely of connective tissue n not fat it's very compact hence injections r painful here n all skin sesitivity tests are subcutaneous n some vaccines.
