Your question answers itself. If it can only be relieved through pain medicine, then there is no help except pain medicine.
Nevertheless, I personally don't believe pain medicine is ever the ONLY solution.
Chronic neck pain is one of the most common physical complaints in the world. Everyone experiences it from time to time, and a large percentage of us experience it frequently. There are a TON of things that can cause it, so it is very difficult to diagnose. But your doctor can ask many relevant questions to try to narrow it down, and a lot of possible remedies can be tried. Myself, I find that stress is a big factor. Learn to cope with stress, or reduce the stress in your life, and physical pain will almost always be lessened. Also, a lot of times your sleep posture is to blame, which is affected largely by your pillow not giving sufficient neck support. Invest in a theraputic pillow made of memory foam. Buy a good one. There are lots of imitation memory foam pillows that do not give any support at all. I paid 130.00 for mine, but it was worth every penny.

get to a good chiropractor. they will xray and do other testing. if it is a subluxation, or a few mis aligned vertabrae, they will be able to correct the problem, and rid you of the actual reason, not just put a bandaid on the symptoms. misalignment of the spine will cause all kinds of problems, pain being one of them. it causes the nerve endings that are connected to the spine where the problem exists to be unable to communicate with the body parts they are connected to.
good luck..

Get feelings of guilt out of your body and mind through meditation and your neck pain should be gone.
