I live in another country from my family and friends and would like them to know that my daughters birthday is here, not for the gifts, just the thought. I would like to announce the birthday, not neccessarily invite.

Send the picture announcements. You should definately do this. I'm sure they would love it!! We all need a little help remembering birthdays sometimes!!

It depends on how big you want to make it. Generally your 1 year old won't remember his/her first birthday, so I would make it simple and just invite a few close friends and family with a friendly phone call rather than using announcements..

Just call up your family, close friends, people you'd want to see at your baby's birthday party, and have fun. No need for announcements, unless you'd prefer checking names at the door, who's allowed, who's not, or having everyone in the neighborhood attend the party. Besides, don't you think it'll have you bringing more and more food and drinks to the party? It'll cost a lot.

One is kinda young to throw a big celebration. I make it close family, Like grandparents and aunts and uncles. For this just call/ Email. They are too young to remember it. My youngest , her birthday falls on Thanksgiving Some years, Now thats a pain in the *** having to deal with the birthday , and plan and cook that big of a dinner.

That sounds like a good idea, I would do the same, when my daughter had her first birthday I sent invitations out to relatives that live in differernt states.
