Religion is nothing but how a practical philosophy is made binding on a society.
Without women , no creation can survive . To continue , women are required.
Men on the other hand , are both facilitator for creation and destroyer . All cruel and annihilistic rulers were men only. Even Satan is conceived as male in most religion.
So as long as the male dominated religion exists , it will be very difficult to upgrade the women in any religion.
Solution will automatically come , if Vatican accepts POPE and MOTHER in alternate terms.
Begums and Biwis having equal power of Maulavis and mullahs.
Azans are not to be male dominated only.
Pundits and poojaris are not to be males only.
But this is a very wishful thinking in a male chauvinistic world , where science is to be misused for female foeticide.
How many are jailed or severely punished for such crimes against the female race?

No religion downgrades the women. Every religion preaches for respecting women in one way or the other. Its the men followers of almost all religions that downgrade women by interpreting and using the teachings for their benefit.

Who made religions? We did. Now when it comes to social atrocities, why do we blame religion? Isn't it our fault?

All you out there who compare God with religion - religion is the the path to God. Be it Allah, Buddha, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. all are but different names for one.

I tell you what, Buddha had no idea that his followers would be categorized as Buddhists. Nor did Jesus ever dream about his followers being categorized. It's the same with Krishna, Shiva, Fire, and all the so called Gods.

And to the people who states verses and chants from so called religious books - you guys are not reading the original scripts, you are reading revised and re-revised versions. Give me a break. Even if there were different Gods, do you think they would be stupid enough to fight among themselves for supremacy.

All of these forms of the Almighty wanted us to live a perfect humanitarian life. They wanted us to identify ourselves as 'human beings' - the most important and integral portion of his creations. But instead we wanna identify ourselves as Christians, Hindus, Muslims, etc.

People who try to prove their religious supremacy are basically few narrow minded people who do not have any respect for the mankind, nor do they value themselves as human beings.

The same concept works for downgrading women. Why do you think God would want one of his creations to downgrade other one. But we human beings would want to do that. Under the pretext of religion, we let lose the animal inside us. Our own desires come into play and we call it Gods wish. And most surprisingly people believe it.

Just for the sake of answering your question - Christians downgrade women by offering them too much of liberty and luring them into unethical affairs (and they just go to the church and wash away their sins), Hindus downgrade women by wrongly overloading them with duties while the men take their freedom for granted and Muslims downgrade exploit women under their religious pretext. Off course not all follow such religious practices. As far as statistics are concerned, so called Muslims would be at the top of it.

the religions where the women position was higher than man`s were earth religion (cults), witchcraft (somehow...), Egyptian religion along with other old religions where the women and the moment of the orgasm was considered to be the only way of touching the divinity... No religion downgrades the women. Islam restrained from burying female neo natals and killing little daughters. It gave rights of equality, education & property, share in inheritance succession of father/brother/husband, right of consent in marriage, etc. to women over 1400 years back. The Last Book/Prophet clearly enumerated rights of women and warned a lot against any injustice or harassment to them. Unlike others, Islam strictly prohibits/forbids unwed sexual relations. It keeps males & females separate if not related by blood or marriage. Muslim women oberve pardah/veil at their wish and none compels them: neither any priest nor their relatives. They are at liberty to practise the religion of their choice, which right should not be snatched in a civilised and cultured society.

Hinduism is an ancient culture, tradition, custom of Hindustan (India). Hinduism is not a religion. Women were (rarely are) burnt on funeral pyre of husband calling it Suttee; they were later worshipped in temples constructed in their names. Teen aged or young daughters/girls were (and are) married to Gods in temples and are abandoned to fulfill sexual lust of needy and devotees (Jogini). Teen aged, young, matured, adult girls roam completely nude/naked upon the roads in processions in the Hindu annual gatherings in Shivmoga (Karnataka state). All pious see them & enjoy. Women cannot remarry even if widowed in childhood or in infancy. Daughters have no share of inheritence succession. Women are kept out of living rooms during particular monthly days.

i don't think that it is which religion so much as which men in control of that religion.
almost all religion is patriarchal. placing women under the control of men.
any religion that is so one sided cannot be a good thing.

Islam and Hinduism downgrades women a lot.In Islam there were many times when women were forced to follow purdah system(this restricted free will), but at the same time in Hinduism Sati is still practised in many parts of India.Sati is not done by free will but forced down onto a woman(which is sheer murder and not suicide)Back to Islam,in Riyadh women are forced to wear Purdah and Burkha,or else these people who work for the king or some orthodox police take them away from their family if they fail to follow the system.I think both religions degrade women but I m not sure which one degrades women the most.Finally I would say that tis the people who in the greed of power,misinterpret religion and degrade women,not the religion itself.
