Gout (also called metabolic arthritis) is a disease due to an inborn disorder of the uric acid metabolism. In this condition monosodium urate crystals are deposited on the articular cartilage of joints and in the particular tissue like tendons. This provokes an inflammatory reaction of these tissues. These deposits often increase in size and burst through the skin to form sinuses discharging a chalky white material.
Normally, the human bloodstream only carries small amounts of uric acid. However, if the blood has an elevated concentration of uric acid, uric acid crystals are deposited in the cartilage and tissue surrounding joints. Elevated blood levels of uric acid can also result in uric kidney stones.

Gout is a type of arthritis caused by the reaction of the body to needle-like crystals of uric acid that accumulate in joint spaces. This reaction causes inflammation, swelling, and pain in the affected joint, most commonly the big toe.
Certain types of proteins are not properly processed by people with gout and the proteins end up causing an increase in the uric acid mentioned in a previous answer. Often these specific proteins cannot be completely avoided. In that case, specific medications have been discovered that can help you disolve the uric acid crystals. While gout in the big toe is most common, crystals can accumulate anywhere and can cause kidney damage.

Gout can happen to anyone from young to old, from male to female. Arthritic gout can occur at any time after puberty until the age of seventy-five. Researches have shown that arthritic gout is more common in men than woman. It is caused by painful attacks in the joints due to the deposition of uric acid crystals. Arthritic gout attacks can last for a few minutes to a few days and the intensity of these attacks usually varies as well. There are various avenues for arthritic gout patients to treat their gout symptoms. Arthritic gout patients can consult professional doctors to get medications to help reduce the pain during an attack or even prevent gout attacks from occurring. There are also natural remedies, which arthritic gout patients can consider to help cure them of gout. Maintaining a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle by exercising regularly is also very important in the process of curing arthritic gout.
