I'm trying to better understand the process for regulating and paying for cancer products in India. I would be grateful if any information (especially grateful if it is sourced) on who firstly regulates pharma products, and secondly who holds the pursestrings and therefore decides which drugs can and cannot be prescribed. And lastly, how much ability the prescribers have to work around or outside this. Big gold star for the one who can help!

The Government has a Ministry as also Department which approves all pharma products, including cancer or anticancer drugs either manufactured in India or imported from other countries. This Department also regulate the License to manufacture & sale of such drugs and in certain cases also regulates the prices. Purse strings for inventing any drug is with established Pharma Companies having R&D. As far as prescription is concerned, it is decided by the Medical Practioners.
