the son has his own place and a job so he foots his own bills and can't be told what to do.
the son also bought a bmw 330i just like his father so they can race.

Sounds like the two are enjoying each other.......maybe the dad just wants to feel "young" again!

It sounds like the father wants to reclaim his youth by hanging out with the son and the son's friends. It's great that they do stuff together, but the nature of thier activities is a little questionable. But, hey, that's just me; I don't really get the whole Vegas and stripclubs thing!!

Let's look at the son's relationship with his friends and the father with his friends. If that's the way both behave with their own friends, then it is their nature to be very sociable and the father-son relationship as described above is normal.

However, if the father does not do the same things with his friends but only with his son, then he is probably a babyboomer with infantalization tendencies (i.e. pleasing his son, even pampering him to extremities as friends would but which a responsible adult would not).

But if the son does not behave this way with his friends but only his father does, then perhaps the son is trying to proof his adulthood to his father.

If both does not do this with their own friends, then they are acting out similar fantasies of competition and challenge that they must proof to the other they are better.

Sounds like me and my son. Even the 'he bought a bmw 330i to race me with' part. Poor boy never stood a chance because my bmw has (and he does not know this) a Chev ZZ 572-640 in it and I clean his lil clock every time.

Normal? No. Most fathers prefer to be role models. Is it a bad relationship? No, sounds they have more of a friendship than a father-son relationship. As long as they are not hurting themselves or anyone else, I don't see anything wrong with it.

I think that it sounds normal, it just means that there is a very close bond between the father and the son, and there's nothing wrong with that.

sounds like a good relationship, but dad needs to act more his age and set a better example for his son than to be a party animal.

Sounds like a good father son relationship to me. I would love to see my son know his father even remotely close to what you expressed here. but that will never happen. They don't even know each other or what they even look like to each other. I think it is way Cool!

It sounds as though they have a good relationship, although the father is acting more like his friend than his father.

It's different.....not necessarily bad....unless they're driving around drunk, then they both have a problem and need help.

Honestly, just sounds like they are really close.....I think they could find more productive things to do together, but who am I to judge.
