Go to Grisoft's (AVG7.5) home page they have a 30 day demo of their new anti spyware tool available for free download,
It works well!
As for buying a virus scanner why bother, AVG 7.5 is THE BEST you can get and its free (to home users)

If you have a trojan, switch off system restore and scan in safe mode, or it will restore itself.
Unlike firewalls and anti virus, you can run more than one anti spyware on your pc, since they all do slightly different jobs its a good idea to have several.

http://www.ewido.net - AVG(Ewido) anti trojan.
http://www.safer-networking.org - Spybot Search and Destroy anti spyware. Use the Teatimer settings to protect Internet Explorer, and the Immuniser to stop malware getting on your pc.
Spywareblaster works with Internet Explorer and Firefox. It won't uninstall spyware that is already on your pc, but it will prevent hijacks and other malicious changes to your browser.

Plus;
http://www.lavasoft.com - Ad-Aware SE Personal anti adware

I like this selection because they're easy to install and use, they're free and work as well as the paid for stuff. Between them they cover pretty much everything. Plus Ewido and Ad-Aware will do a quick scan.
