Sounds like a RAM problem if you using less then 128mb then that might be your problem, also processor speed can effect performance and input response.
CPU temperature problems (overheating) will make your computer instantly shut down so its not that! But do clean the filth from your CPU's heatsink and fan, and also the PS.

those issues generally take place while the laptop is bombarded with spyware or malware. in case you have a good anti-virus application such as Norton or McAfee then run an entire test and consider for malware, spyware, spyware. in case you do no longer then acquire Malwarebytes (preferrably from a distinctive laptop onto a flash force) and run it. Delete all spyware/malware it famous.

That's definitely not enough information to help you, but first I suggest reinstalling Excel, if that doesn't work then back up all your important files and reinstall Windows XP. If that doesn't work, you'll know it's a hardware problem.

it could be any of a number of things. you might try opening task manager and checking both the processes and the applications tabs. If you notice that you have a lot of unnecessary processes running you should try disabling them by right clicking and selecting disable. Be sure to only disable processes with your name next to them though.
