Hell yes. Sometimes they just follow people around trying to get them nervous so they'll do something minor so they can pull them over!
Anyone driving around with the legal right to shoot you on the spot makes me nervous.

Anymore I always keep my license & registration up to date as well as my insurance. But because I have a checkered past, and a rather large jacket, I do get a little paranoid sometimes. Other times, say when I'm having a 5-Star Day, I find it no problem with a bear on my tail, in fact I could get down right kockey. That goes away quickly, and I pay attention to what I'm doing, because it is just my luck that I've got a Doo Bee in the ashtray, or the inside of my truck smells like a burning bail of hay!

Yes, I live in Los Angeles and you never know what the mood of that Officer is. Sometimes, even when nothing is wrong they will try to find something. For example, I am a White man married to a Black woman. One night, we were driving home from a movie and got pulled over because I had a burned out license plate light. All of my paperwork (registration, title, insurance) and my license were up to date. What really got my goat was when the cop took me aside and asked me who the woman was and how long we knew each other. While this cop was talking to me, his partner was asking my wife the same questions. Guess he assumed I was a john who picked up a prostitute. Do they ask the same question of couples of the same race???
My stepson once got pulled over for running a stop sign in Culver City and that officer asked him questions like "What gang do you run with?" and "Who is your probation officer?" Guess in this White officer's mind, all young Black men are in gangs and on probation.
Los Angeles is the fourth big city I have lived in. Prior to moving here, I was never nervous about being followed by the Police. Because of the last two incidents, now I am.

no, the few times i have been pulled over, for speeding, was on the interstate early in the morning right after the speed dropped, and at the bottem of a hill, and i didnt even see a policeman,,,, so i figure if a can see them, i am fine,,,,
ps: though i guess i should be nervous right now, for if, in my city, they were to stop me, i would probably give them a big peice of my mind,,,,,,,, recently had a car stolen, it was found, actually in good shape, even before we got to the lot, the policeman had decided he really didnt need to process it (fingerprints),,,, only after seeing it,, and me finding a sticker off a computer stolen from a local high school, did he do a half way job of fingerprinting,,, the doors and steering wheel,,, there were clothes in it, pop bottles,, the brick they used to bust the window,,,, he could of easily identified, i would think, the crooks,,,,,, but couldnt be bothered!
so i might wind up in jail , if stopped, for calling them lame butts, lol

Yes I do. And I am an older women, UTD on ins., plates... everything else an officer would ask for, but I know several cops personally, and I know, if they want to stop you, they will find a valid reason to. I worry more about how Im driving, if I did something wrong when an officer is around.

Don't be. I've rode with lots of officers (in the back seat, but not under arrest) and every time we would want to pass a car all the cars slow down to below the speed limit because they don't want to be pulled over. Cops usually only like to be pricks when it's their first couple of months, but most of the time the officer is headed to a call.

This always made me laugh. I can't tell you how many times I've been behind someone who suddenly slows down 5 or 10 mph below the limit because I was behind them. Believe it or not 90% of us aren't even paying attention to you. Oh naturally a quick once over of your car and the plates but not like calling in the tags or anything like that. All I'm doing is driving from one end of my beat to the other, driving to get to an address to take a complaint or looking to get my first cup of coffee on shift. Honestly my dear, you be amazed how many times we aren't even looking...just moving with the flow of traffic like you. Only difference is I'm in back of you instead of in front.
Hope that dispells any paranoia.

It depends whether you have anything to feel guilty about .
If you are sure you are entirely blameless it can be quite fun .
Once a copper followed me for miles , long time ago , we were both on push bikes I was young and he was fat and when i was quite sure he was following me I kept just within a distance where he might have thought he might catch me .
We carried on like that for at least 5 miles till I met my brother and stopped for a chat .
turns out he thought my bike was stolen .
A quick phone to the station showed that it wasn't and he went on his way , after of course trying to identify me properly.
Of course I had nothing to hide ..........then
Having read some of the other answers It seems that police in the US are much more feared than in the UK .
One remark got to me ...........in the US you are talking about a person who might just shoot you if he got angry .
I have been stopped a few times since I started driving and the policeman was invariably very polite .

Yes, always and very.
Even to the extreme....
I was driving along the freeway about 4 weeks ago and a police bike came up behind me. Even though I'd done nothing wrong, I was convinced that he was going to pull me over. . . . .I was SO convinced of this, that I voluntarily pulled over.
And he just drove straight past me and carried on up the freeway.
I think my fear of authority comes from having an abusive father as a child and always feeling guilty for not being the boy that he wanted.
Ho-hum !
We all have our crosses to bear!

I don't get nervous at all. I get anxious and in my mind I am daring them to pull me over because I know they can't get me for a damned thing.
I know people always slow down, go under the speed limit when cops go by them, but I hate when people do that. Unless you have something to hide, ya know...
I do the speed limit, and if they aren't doing the speed limit, then I will pass them.
I have no reason to be afraid of them.
