Actually, I have heard that washing your dog to often can not only dry out the skin because it washes away their natural oils, but also makes them smell worse. I use to frequently was my dog and he still smelled by. But once I reduced how often I washed him he started to smell fresher...You could get a fence restricting him to a specific area in the yard.

I would say: only when you really, really have to. The less use of shampoo, the better. If your puppy is dirty, you can also put him under the garden hose, without (baby or dog) shampoo. And that you can do every day if you want to.
We wash our dog maybe 2 to 3 times a year (and that's because we really can't appreciate the smell of a week old dead fish or some duckpoo); we rinse him off maybe 5 times a year for "minor smells". The rest he takes care off by himself: we live close to a small lake.

some dogs or im not sure all dogs, but mines still stinks if not worst after he gets out of the shower, i guess its the wet dog smell, but over the next couple of weeks the smell was less apparent, he usually cleans himself and my vet told me to wash as needed, not everyweek. maybe you should consult or call up for a second opinion. im not saying that your current vet is wrong, im just saying it wouldnt hurt to get a second opinion. you can fill in the wet spot or put a small fence up around that spot and supervise him when he runs out to play in the yard.

At least once a week, twice a week could be too much, (it could dry out there skin and lead to other problems) your best bet is to draw him to another part of the yard(moving toys and such) Also try a PetSmart or somthing of that nature
GOOD LUCK!

dogs have oils that help there skin and fur and produce among other things scent for the dog. If you wash too often the dog looses too much, it's not healthy for the dog.
Listen to your vet., he's sounds like a trained professional.

is this breed going to be a big or a little dog. as a groomer i would say not a more than once a month. use baby powder on the puppy if need to freshen up him. there are pet colones that can be used.

i think you should stay away from dog heavy parfumes they are toxic and absorbed through the skin....and also they lick themselves! I think you should listen to the vet, it seems often enough..but if you ever have to bathe him more than that i think you should blow dry him well, if you live where its cold...they can get sick..like us. So I think you should everyday clean him with BABY WIPES......they are gentle and I think you can get them at the dollar store.....I use that every night allover their bodies (ihave 2)....everywhere..even their bum bum, paws, around eyes...use different ones for different areas..obviously...and what someone else said put some baby powder too. :)GOOD LUCK

I THINK YR VET IS RIGHT,, BUT DOGS AND CATS ALIKE WIL SMELL, I WOULD ENCOURAGE U TO FILL IN THE WET SPOT, THIS SHOULD ELEVIATE PART OF THE PROBLEM,, ALSO MAKE SURE HIS SKIN ISNT OVERLY DRY AS THIS CAN ALSO CAUSE ODOR
