I'm in Illinois and have my masters degree in clinical psychology. I'm looking for someone licensed who can supervise my therapy sessions. I'm also looking for help setting up a place to conduct sessions, getting referrals, etc. I'm new to this and can use any suggestions about getting started from those of you who are in the field. Thanks!

Some ideas:
-call your local colleges/universities and speak with deans of social work
-contact mental health clinics and hospitals
-your state licensing board should be able to give you names and the protocol for setting up supervision. In Ohio it's the State Social Work and Family Counseling Board, but I'm not sure what it's called in Illinois
-you might be able to get some help from the National Association of Social Work (www.nasw.org)

Like the previous person said, most people get their 2 years of supervision through their place of employment. I don't know anyone who has gone into private practice without an LISW.

If you are new to the field and just recently graduated, I would suggest that you apply for a position at an agency where you can get good clinical supervision. Interview the person who will be supervising you in proposed positions you apply for and ask questions about their therapeutic orientation and their philosophy of supervision.
I would not recommend starting a private practice without at least several years at an agency where you will receive close supervision. If you have been working already and are just beginning a private practice, I'd start by asking other supervisors who you know and have found helpful whether they would consider providing private supervision, or contact former professors from your previous school of social work.
