I'm wondering how well Salukis respond to obedience training. Do they have enough of an attention span and a desire to please their master to be trained well? Or, do they basically want to do their own thing, get bored with training, and just want to run and chase things? Thanks for your input!

Saluki are really smart dogs. They are considered the fastest dog in the world, but you never see them in dog races - because as soon as they realize they will never catch the rabbit, they quit. They are considered the fastest animal in the world over a 3 mile course.
Salukis have a kind of 'cat-like' personality. They don't jump up on their owners and go crazy when the owner gets home. In fact they may or may not even get up at all. They always seem to be analyzing situations. They can be trained, but it's tougher than other dogs.

there are lots of respected breeders of the smaller Australian Shepherd affectionately referred to as Mini Aussie. Do your analyze and you will locate many attempt for hips, eyes, etc.there is little to no distinction on condition that they're an identical canines, purely smaller. Coats are an identical, pastime point, an identical, comparable intelligence. character does selection from canines to canines, no longer length to length. interior the u . s . a ., the mini's have been generally taking place into AKC and have a sparkling call (because of the fact USASA had a **** in good condition relating to the call) so that they are referred to now as Miniature American Shepherds. In Canada they do no longer seem to be yet known, which does no longer propose there's no such element. before the Australian Shepherd grew to become into known by making use of CKC, they nevertheless "existed" and have been registered with NSDR, the 1st and unique registry for Australian Shepherd. MANY MINI's in the present day are nevertheless registered with NSDR. there has been a protracted conflict and animosity in direction of the smaller sized Aussie from the bigger sized Aussie human beings. Its a shame, because of the fact they needless to say are available in all sizes. seem back interior the historic previous books and you will see the vast fluffy vast boned Aussies of in the present day...did no longer exist back then and that they actually regarded extra like our Mini Aussies of in the present day seem. exciting hmmm. So in case you searching for an Australian Shepherd...yet might like something a sprint smaller, detect an excellent breeder who does all of the wellness sorting out, in line with danger shows her canines, and take a seem on the breed prevalent, your mini must be a replicate image to the better Aussie, purely smaller. :)

They are a sighthound, so therefore more independent in nature, they can be trained but it has to be rewarding to them inorder to give them to incentive to want to do. With sighthounds they are very sensitive so no harsh training methods should be used, they tend to respond well to positive reinforcement and clicker training works well with them, and keep sessions short so they do not get bored.

And do not let people tell you that most sighthounds can not be trained to sit,
He can sit properly when food is involved but in this picture sat more on his hip http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y53/mleg2001/0f7f59263a1d40f0d33991f3b2fadb53.jpg

They also can be trained to be assistance dogs and therapy dogs, actually due to their gentle natures and height they are well suited for the work , one of my foster dogs became a certified therapy dog in less than 6 weeks http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y53/mleg2001/f9fa7ccf.jpg
