When a doctor gives you a prognosis, it simply means likely outcome. A good prognosis means they have good expections you'll recover or be treatable.
A Poor/Guarded Prognosis means that your condition may deteriorate and you may not get better.
My friends baby got meningitis and they said that it was a guarded prognosis - she beat all the odds and she is now a healthy 4 year old.
A prognosis is therefore not always the definate outcome (just a predicted outcome)

prognosis the forcast to the outcome of the health situation at hand. say you go into the doctors office, ER, clinic...etc and have a broken femur and they said its a clean break and all you need is a thigh cast for say 6 months...prognosis is good no permanant damage you will still be able to walk....OR your femur was damaged badly even with 6 mo on a cast your prognosis is bleak you may not be able to walk on it again....Prognosis; forcast of future outcome ....each prognosis is different for each health situation.
