The one most often overlooked is Wilbur's. Made in Lititz, PA. They made their Wilbur Buds long before Hershey made their kisses. They come in dark and milk. They aren't advertised, and the company doesn't really need them as a product because they're a commercial chocolate producer. As in, you'll find Wilbur's chocolate as chips in your ice cream. Or as curly shavings on the irresistable offerings on a dessert cart. They only make them because they know fans would scream bloody murder if they stopped.

The best American brand I think is Ghiradelli from San Francisco. European chocolate: Lindt.

Swiss chocolate has the best reputation all around the world! shame on me but i can't remember the brand... ok, online search says premium Swiss chocolate is Cocolo, but what i remember from my childhood is "Alpen milka" chocolate, here's a picture http://austria.mozartkugel.co.uk/images/milkachocolatebar100.jpg
if you got interested, you can order those online and try them

This is pretty subjective, but in my expert (ha) opinion, it's Green & Blacks. They're organic and delicious. Give them a try sometime! I'm a big fan of their dark chocolate varieties.
