I have, but in my experience most use it as a weakness to be exploited so now I just look after myself and my son and don't worry so much about finding 'true love'.

Depends what you mean by "true" love. I believe that all love is selfish. All love is conditional. We love that which gives us pleasure or meets our needs in some way. It can be about lust, companionship, parental instinct, security, etc. Whatever it is, when you stop getting it your love is history.
Even a mother's love is conditional. If a mother has a happy, smart, cute kid and a whiny, dull, ugly kid guess which kid will be loved more.

You might have to define "true love", and that's part of the difficulty.
No, I've never been good at "love", by most definitions. I can do commitment, affection, care, consideration and, more rarely, companionship.
But I'd not swear to love, true or otherwise.

I have been fortunate to have experienced true love. However, I did not marry him. A person has to be guided by their head not their heart.
