"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control." Galatians 5:22

If they do not show the fruits of the spirit, they do not have the spirit of God in them. Why? Possibly because they have not met with God yet in a personal way.

There are 2 types of Christians - those who have been brought up Christian or those who merely go to church on a Sunday but have not had a personal encounter with Jesus Christ and do not KNOW God. These give Christianity a bad name because they call themselves Christians but do not serve the Lord. Then there are those of us who are born again Christians and who the Lord slowly changes and delivers and begins to turn us into what He wants us to be - an image of Himself.

There are many, many people who have been brought up very very badly in God's name and they do not know God. If they did, they would not do the terrible things they do.

Please understand the difference. Born again Christians are NOT religious. Christians who do not know the Lord ARE religious. God detests religion because He wants us to have a personal relationship with Him.

This means they are fakers and their heart is not following their words. Pertaining too priests or leaders, It gets me so mad sometimes because you expect them out of all people to respect people and show love to those who are seeking love and need a spritual leader during hard times. My dad when he first came to the country didnt know how to speak english so he found a job cleaning a church. Everymorning there was free coffee and toast for everyone. My dad went for his daily coffee and toast when the priest asked him "what are you doing" my dad answered having coffee..the priest told him the coffee and toast was only for the priests. So dad said ok"sorry sir here;s ure coffe and poured it out in the sink and threw his toast in the garbage...and then said thank you very much! The next day people had heard about what happened and the priest felt so embarassed he apologized. What was the point of him being so selfish? So my conclusion is dont look at religions or faces look at hearts...you will find them everyewhere

The word mean is very vague. I don't define mean as strongly disagreeing with someone or exposing flawed logic. And yes sometimes I use humour i this attempt. Then some on the other side of issues wish to accuse anyone who disagrees with them of persecution. This is an attempt to muzzle and detract fro the debate. And if we find ourselves getting nasty then we need to stop. But this applies to non religious people as well which your question failed t mention.

Anyone can call themselves a Christian, but that doesn't mean they really are one. Jesus said people would recognize His true followers by their love (John 13:35). If they don't have His love in their lives, then they aren't a Christian no matter what they call themselves. The first set of links below are some blog entries I wrote about "Christians" who aren't living as Christ would.

It depends on what you mean by "mean"? Sometimes love requires a certain amount of harshness, even Oprah will tell you that. Yet I will concede that religious folk can be overly filled with self-righteous zeal. Please pray to the Lord Jesus Christ that we may be filled with the Wisdom of how best to exercise our faith in a loving manner in all circumstance. I'm sorry if you've been treated wrongfully.

Sometimes people equate love as to being nice.
But this is not always the case. Some consciously choose to be strict because of love. This is difficult to understand at first.

However, with all things being equal...there are mean people everywhere...religious or not.

Love can build a bridge...

but...sometimes its really hard to be the first one "onto" the bridge, ...sometimes its necessary to go more than half way across to reach another...
.... and sometimes having to cross over all the way to the other side is a very hard thing to do..it's scary, dangerously alone and requires leaving pride behind.....so perhaps "fear" is the culprit...what do you think?

I've often wondered the same thing myself. I've stopped calling myself 'religious' and now just say 'I'm a Christian.'
And I guess it's because we're not capable of agape (divine love), only philia (brotherly love)!

Do you honestly think that just because a person states that they are Christian that they are "Super Human", and what I mean by this is that they are not to show any emotion whatsoever?...If that is the case then you my friend are wrong. We are Humans like the rest of the race and we are prone to anger, sorrow, and happiness.

In the Bible even God and Jesus showed anger.

Apparently it is either easier or more fun to hate than to love for most people. Some have been able to transcend this human condition, sadly, the majority are unable.
