Dear Alec,
There is no love like the first love, Maybe you can't really unstand this until you have gone throuhg it yourself but, it does exists. Your friend is not going nuts. He just has his heart on one person, even though he had moved on ,even though he takes care of his family, excels in work a first love you do not get over.It does not matter for how long he has not seen her, one day he will. I have been there, done that. It is also possible to care for 2 people. Your friend moved on to ease the pain of his first love, take it from me, I know from personal experience. When the time is right he will go looking.

He probably didn't have "closure" with her; that's why he's still obsessed with her. If he had been with her longer, maybe even married her and saw her as a real person rather than the perfect goddess that he has created her to be in his mind, he wouldn't feel this way about her. He probably compares his wife to her all the time and of course, his wife pales in comparison....he sees his wife everyday, she nags, she garggles, pees, etc., etc. But the "perfect" ex remains a godly creature that does no wrong and isn't even human in how perfect she is. He's obsessing over an image of her rather than the real person she is and he would've gotten to know better if they had stayed together. Just my two cents.

May people have the same regrets. They've lost the one they truly loved, and are settling for the next best thing. It is sad, but it happens quite often.

its just because he thinks of a relationship thats not one where he has to be responsible as he is in his real relationship. the girl will never come back, he needs to forget all that silliness.
