I sold a beautiful bottle of Chateauneuf-du-pape to a drunk beer drinker who has no idea what it is. He did ask for our most expensive wine. But he wasted his money and a fine wine.

I'll ignore, for the sake of logistics, the illegality of selling to drunk people (I'm assuming it's illegal; I know it is in Ontario at least, and I'm pretty sure it's federal statute), and focus on the waste of booze.

Everybody enjoys wine differently. At least with him, the wine will provide some benefit when he wakes up the next morning and realises what he's done - chances are, he didn't finish the bottle and can try some when he's sober, but even if not, he'll have an expensive reminder of the dangers of getting trashed while carrying a credit card. And hey, maybe he bought it for his girlfriend, so at least you helped him score. That certainly mitigates the waste of quality, no?

And at least he was just a drunken idiot, and not a 20something rich kid or a Bay St lawyer, who was sober and just wanted to impress the girl they were with by loudly announcing that they want 'the most expensive bottle you have'.

That was one of my joys at working where I used to - our most expensive bottle (at least of wine, we had pricier Scotches) was the Petrus 2000 - priced round about $5,400; it was always amusing to see their smug faces recoil in horror and meekly ask for something not so expensive. ;)

No. Darn Capitalist. Trying to steal from the weak and stupid.

YOu should of gave him a White Zinfedel and charged him for the French stuff. Then pay for the White Zin and take home that fine bottle.

You can be forgiven - but you must find this unfortunate and do anything he wants. You know what I mean ;P

Why wouldn't you be forgiven? He asked, you delivered. It's pretty cut and dried.
