I tried it a few years ago.... Yuck! I was really disapointed.
Here are two different recipes.... I hope you have more success then I did.
Steel Magnolias Cuppa Cake
50 min 10 min prep
Change to: servings US Metric
1 cup fruit cocktail in heavy syrup
1 cup self rising flour
1 cup white sugar (or 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup white sugar)
Mix ingredients and bake in 8" square pan at 350 degrees until golden brown and bubbly.
Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream

Cuppa
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 cup self-rising flour
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
1 (20 ounce) can fruit (I use peaches)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Melt butter and place in 2 quart baking dish.
Mix flour, sugar and milk until smooth.
Pour over melted butter in dish.
Do NOT stir!
Pour fruit, with juice over all.
Again, do NOT stir.
Bake at 350 degrees for 45-55 minutes.

My grandmother used to make this recipe with canned sliced peaches. 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup milk. Whisk these together then stir in 1 can peaches with the heavy syrup. Pour into a buttered casserole dish and dot the top with pats of butter. Cook at 350 until top is slightly browned. I suppose you could use fruit cocktail, but I never tried it that way.

"cuppa sugar, cuppa fruit cocktail, cuppa flour, mix and bake 'til gold and bubbly."

I've heard that some people have tried to make it, and it's pretty gross. Here's a thread from IMDB with some recipes inspired by the movie, and a blog with a photo of the actual "cuppa cuppa cuppa" cake:
