its got a lot to do with how you feel about her, if you dont want to hurt her feelings tell her she doesnt look fat, or say,,, well that dress is ok but i really like the blue one much better. maybe that way she would get a better idea of how to dress, but never say anything makes her look fat.

Tell her the cut of the dress is wrong or that she is far too elegant to wear that tight thing. Tell her she is voluptuous and needs something more suitable. If she seriously asks you, tell her she can 'get in shape' and 'tone up her lovely figure' by going to the gym and avoiding junk food. Otherwise, you will be in the reject line. It is unfair but it is true, so live with it.

Honesty is the best policy, but you should tell her that you don't care. You could also be more precise like, "... a little," ".....somewhat" or "it makes you look less stout" if she's trying to lessen her stoutness through clothing and if it's really working. Don't tell her outright that she's fat, because I don't think she is. A truly stout woman wouldn't ask that question because it wouldn't have mattered anyway.
