the real answer is how they are treated. You can make a rottweiler be nice to the kid if its tempered right. I have found american eskimos and collies to be extremly kid friendly in the past. It may be to ur intrest if u purchase the dog after the child is moving around freely so the pet will see the child as a dweller and not an attention competitor.

larger breads of dogs are usually best with kids. children scare smaller breads easily and they get snappier with little ones. we have had german shepherds, black labs, chows, and a wolf. they were all great with the kids. believe it or not the wolf was the best dog with the kids. my 2 year old son could take food right out of its mouth. i do NOT reccommend them as pets for families though. but children are non threatening to most large dogs therefore there is no reason to attack. pitbulls can be great dogs but due to their popularuty years ago, the inbreading caused many to be unstable. thus the bad rep. so if getting a pitbull, check the bloodline. there are plenty of good breeders that will have good dogs available. mutts are almost always the very best dogs. less health problems and more stable temperaments.

The test of time, alone would put the Labrador and Golden Retriever at the top of my list with daylight third, as a pick for a solid family dog.

Most of them depend on how you socialize the dog and How much time you spend with the 4 legged kid and it depends on you being the Boss "you being the top dog"

Golden Retrievers, Beagles, and Pugs all make good dogs for children. However, you shouldn't leave any dog and a very young child together unsupervised.

I agree with the first answer in that it is the way the puppy is raised, socialized and trained that determines their suitability to children.
This site will give you some good ideas though - http://www.dog-obedience-training-review.com/best-dog-breed-for-children.html
Good luck in your search.
