If you don't want to pay for it, download Open Office or Star Office.
If they need Microslop Word then just get an older upgrade standard edition. You might even be able to bum one from somebody and load "everything runs from hard drive" when the option comes up. The upgrade will ask for another version but you can just point it back at the CD your using and it will use it's "key" and continue to load. There is not much difference from Word 98 and Word 2007 except for some bells and whistles and a large price tag.

You need a version of Microsoft Office that includes Word. I don't think you can buy Word separately. Office 2000 is a good package that you might be able to find used, but I would check out your Software dealers to see what other Office packages might be available.
In the meantime they could use WordPad, which does come as an application with Windows Operating Systems. It isn't as good as Word, but the files can be converted once you get Word.

I'm afraid that MS Word isn't part of Windows, you have to purchase Microsoft Office to get it.
However, there is a similar program to Word that you daughter can use and it's free. Open Office >>> http://www.openoffice.org/

MS Word isn't free - you can download a free and compatible application like OpenOffice (link below) or buy a copy of Word/MS Office.
