i have been with my boyfriend for almost a year and i have trouble saying "i love you" at times (even though we both have said it for months now).i know i do love him, but i don't know why it's so hard for me. Even when my parents say it to me i still struggle. am i just not affectionate? any thoughts?

no other word can make us feel more happy than this word. a mother tells her child that she loves him, a boyfriend finally gathers the courage to confess his girlfriend about what he is feeling for her...
it means very much, it's like a sacred promise, which means 'i'll never desert you', 'you mean very much to me'. that's why people are afraid to say it, because they'd feel the burden of their promise.
you'd rather say 'i love ice-cream' or 'i love my car' than 'i love you', because towards a car you cannot take any commitment.
we are not afraid to say the word, we are afraid to offer love. because when you share your feelings, you might be hurt. but, i'm telling you, it's better to take the risk.
you cannot feel love, unless you love. and when you love, words prove to be futile, the others just feel it. and you'll find no worry to say it to the ones you trust.

Imagine that he never says that to you. Can you survive that kind of a relationship?
By reading just the title of your question, I was going to say "then you don't deserve love" right away. When I read the complete story, I'm not blaming you but... well.
And yes, divorcing parents are a terrible threat to daughters psychology. I hate them. Nothing personal, but I hate divorcing people and I hope I don't become one of them in the future.
Look, if you really want something, you can do it. Then this means you don't really want to tell that you love him. Then don't go crying around when you lose him.

it could be, as you may be thinking that they used to say those things too, and youre holding back a bit as you dont want to get hurt, what you need to remember is that its your parents, relationship, not yours. by living in fear of what COULD happen in the future, youre not giving yourself the chance to enjoy fully what you have with your boyfriend

Actions speak louder than voices. Merely saying ' I love you' does not serve the purpose - its the way you show your love to him. Make him feel ' your love' to him - your tongue will automativally start saying 'I love you'. Good luck

Actions speak louder than words..Just show your love instead of thinking you have to say it all the time.

You may know deep down that he isn't the one for you. love is something you share with your partner and it should be a enjoyment together.
