I live in the States and it's boring here. Every time they show Australia on TV it looks like heaven. I always picture sunny weather and beaches and surfing and kangaroos whenever anybody mentions Australia. Is it really as awesome as it sounds?

It is too big and diverse to give a single answer. it is a great country and there are a thousand good things about it and a few bad things. From the beauty of Tassie, to the beaches of Perth, the wonders of Uluru. However don't come over with a false starry eyed perception that it is some sort of some sort of utopia as it just may not meet expectations. Thefts, murder, poverty, drunkenness, drugs and rock and roll happen here -just like everywhere else. If you are an unemployed Aboriginal living in Redfern surviving on little money and dealing with racism your perception could be a little different to one of our media tycoons lounging on their cruiser in Sydney harbour.

Austrlia's definatley how they show it on TV. I've lived in Tasmania all my life (the island south of melboure), and we have beautiful beachers a few minutes walk away which are never crowded, perfect weather in summer and a friendly atmosphere, especially at the famous salamanca markets on saturdays. We've got great surf beaches, and wallabys (small roos) everywhere as well as platypus, echidnas, and the tasmanian devil. better come quick 'cause the devils are dying out!

NO It is NOT as awesome as it sounds.

It is a thousand times better!!! Come, see!

(Kangaroos? Yeah there are plenty of them but don't expect to see them hopping down the sidewalk. They are very shy and in the wild you don't get near them much not that you want to. They can hurt you real nasty if you get too close)

I really hope that you do come and visit us in 'The Lucky Country'.. The flight is long, but it's worth every bit!

I've been halfway across this country and I'm still seeing things that I can't believe!

Take a look at my photo gallery of some australian cities and rural areas:
