I know people who believe this and wonder how widespread this belief is and if it is only certain denominations. If you do believe that, what Scripture do you use to back it up? And if you go to a church that teaches it and you practice these doctrines, do you really believe in them or do it because you feel you have to?

I have seen a couple of "churches" that practices dress and jewelry-code. And mind you, they even have the scriptures as basis for these practices.

But they have missed the whole point here, beano. They have taken this specific doctrine as "physical". Remember when God drove the first couple out of eden? God even gave them clothings to wear? So they think that God himself tailored these clothing by himself? Of course not! All these "clothing-thing" are purely spiritual. And we should not forget - that in the early years of the true church - men's and women's clothings are almost the same. The only difference is that women's has string on the waist. Maybe these "churches" should start requiring these ancient gowns (like the Arab's) for their members. This way, they can really follow what's written.

I'm Apostolic and generally, people in my religion have these beliefs. My church doesn't allow women to wear pants or jewelry but they don't say anything about cuttin hair and wearing makeup as long as its modest. However, there are Apostolic churches that wear whatever they want. The idea that women shouldn't wear pants comes from the scripture “The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.” Deuteronomy 22:5. Pants supposedly pertain to men so some people feel like women shouldn't wear them. I personally don't believe that it should matter because in Bible days men wore robes, and nobody wore pants so its really mans definition of what pertains to men and what pertains to women. The idea that women shouldn't wear jewelry or makeup comes from these scriptures:
I Timothy 2:9-10
"In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works."
I Peter 3:3-4
"Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price."

People interpret this to mean that women shouldn't wear adornments (jewelry) and they dress modestly or as not to attract much attention to themselves.

Corinthians 11:14-15 says: "Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering:"
Some interpret this to mean that if a womans hair is her glory then cutting it would mean cutting off her glory so thats why they don't believe in cutting their hair. I don't personally practice this but I am an Apostolic. Some are more extreme than others. The church I attend while I'm at school isn't that extreme and they don't mind if women wear pants, jewelry, or makeup.

Yes. Im a Christian Baptist.
We hold the Scriptures, the Old and New Testaments, as our final authority.
We accept No humanly devised confession or creed as binding.

It was accepted in the Old Testament but prohibited in the New Testament.

Rules for Women:
Read 1 Timothy chapter 2
It prohibits the use of Jewelry, expensive dresses etc.

1Timothy Chapter 2 contains the ideals set aside for the outer appearance of women. Deuteronomy 5:22 says something to the effect that a "woman shall not wear that which pertaineth to a man (slacks, pants and etc.), nor a man wear that which pertaineth to a woman ( skirts and etc.)." As for my personal beliefs, I've never struggled with it, so I can't offer an opinion, but i know that if it's in the Word, it had better be understood and obeyed.

No, you're actually not undesirable, candy woman, purely unwell counseled. i'm a born back Christian and my fellowship would not dictate what every physique wears. some take place, dressed VERY casual, others gown in company dresses, etc. i think of the church you're relating must be United Pentecostal Church. that's a very legalistic team and oftentimes referred to as "holy curler." you will possibly be able to extra effective relish a non-denominational fellowship!
