No, it isn't desirable. If you read this forum you must know a question about breeding mutts will result in you getting nastygrams.
Puppies would be mutts. And your female shouldn't be bred until she is at least 2 years old. And you need to get both dogs health checked. You wouldn't want to breed sick puppies, would you?
And your female could very likely die trying to whelp a litter.

Its not desirable! you wont be perserving the good qualities of the dogs as they are not the same breed what you will do it have the bad traits of both breeds as well as the good,. also your female is way way to young you should atleast wait till she is 2yrs old and is fully matured. also keep in mind it cost money to breed and have puppies , what if something goes wrong while the female is whelping? what if there are things wrong with the newborn pups (eg. cleft palete ,swimmer pups, water puppy etc) also what if they female cant nurse? do you have the time ,money etc to bottle fed puppies? also how will you find them good homes? what about vaccinations etc? its a very very costly adventure and there are so many cross breeds including little dogs and puppies in the shelters why contribute to this sad afair?

If you work alot of hours then you have no time to care for a litter of puppies when they start to run around. PLus what are you going to do with them. You cant sell them, and giving them away wont ensure they get a good home later on. So dont add to the pet population with bredding them.
Just enjoy thier beauty, puppies can get traits from the grandparents also and you dont know their history. So Enjoy the beauty of your dogs and dont breed them. You might not get what you expected. They love each other as friends yes but mates no. SO have her fixed please to preserve her beauty and have him fixed as well. so they both will have long healthy lives.
Your not ready to help care for the litter if you work so much and adopted anouther dog to keep the other company.

Don't undo your great action of rescuing a dog from the shelter - by having a litter of pups into a world that already has too many dogs that are put down.
I am surprised that the shelter didn't spay your little shih-tzu before they let you adopt her. (or did they make you sign a spay contract that you are you going to violate?) Every shelter that I know of spays/neuters before adoptions or if too young the new owners sign that they will spay/neuter as soon as the pup is old enough.
Don't do it - the personality of two dogs is not what true breeders are trying to "preserve" - especially with mutts.

How is it you are going to preserve the good qualities of the 2 dogs??? They are different breeds, and when you breed two different breeds together, it's a crap shoot as to what you are going to get. The resulting litter might not be anything like their parents.. They might get the worst combination of genes possible.

I wouldn't if I were you. There is no need for any more mixes being deliberately bred. Your dogs are also too young, females shouldn't be bred until they are at least 2 years old. That way they are fully developed and their bodies are mature enough to go through the pregnancy without complications.

maybe when the female matures some more. ask a vet about this. These types of puppies are available online. I have heard them called Shih-las (not sure of spelling but sounds like Sheilas.)

it is a good idea as it will give the female good practice in mothering skills without jeopardising her pedigree, as well as keeping both dogs happy!

p.s. good on you for rescuing her!
