I am American...and really sick of hearing the word "pregers". I'm nauseous already.

The answers: smoke screen - and bad journalism!
The smokescreen:
1) Keeps our eyes distracted from what the Powers are up to - especially when They make mistakes.
2) Keeps us dumb, addicted and brainwashed!
Bad journalism:
It passes off as information - but is really Tabloid trash dressed up to be news.
It shapes the mindset that teaches us to devalue other people - even if - especially if they are celebrities.
To all those who say 'just turn the channel' - I say...It is getting impossible. They air it on public buses; in clinics etc. Even our dear families are addicted to it!
I pray we do not turn into Teletubbies ourselves!

Because the majority of Americans are about as philosophically "deep" as a thumbnail in Jello pudding.
They have such an insatiable need to know about Britney and Lindsay and Anna Nicole because they can't think beyond the magazine covers at the checkout counter.

It's simple, it's all about ratings. In the end they are businesses and they are trying to make money. Whatever makes more people watch makes the price of their commercials go up. I'm really sick of it myself. I think all the celebrity news should be confined to morning news only and leave the rest of the day to real issues.

I don't know, but it gives the world something to focus on other than the horrific reality of what is really going on. Not that that makes it right of course. I personally don't even watch the news because I am too much of a coward.

You have the power to turn the TV off as I usually do except for educational TV and TVland, as well as refusing to buy newspapers, etc.. You realize that all this celebrity stuff is being used by the Media to sell commercial time and ads? If so, then just boycott them all and they will have to stop.

I am with you 100%.
I really dont give a damn about birtney shaving her head, or christina aguilera having a three some.
When the news comes on at 10pm, i want to know WORLD NEWS, and whats going on with our dear troops in iraq. I am moreconcerned about our troops then anything else going on right now.
The media is a bunch of PURCHASED liberal b.s. that are not always neutral.... like the way they are supposed to be.
oh well, this is the world we live in. we might as well adapt. its a fact, and i hate it.

because US public has been brainwashed into being shallow unthinking sheep of the media.
Anyone not following the agenda the media wants followed is called politically incorrect and reviled... for having original thought.

Because that's what the networks think Americans want to see, and for the most part, they're probably right. They wouldn't get that impression if they didn't have the ratings to back it up.

WHy u think i dont watch the news....I DONT CARE! Celebrities aren't that important to me...
O my favorite is when someone I know, someone into pop lifestyle or trendy and brings up this celebrity and talks about them...and o did you hear about this and that...and blah blah blah

Because people seem to be more interested in Britney shaving her hair or Lindsay Lohan going back to rehab than kids who are in desperate need of help and people killing and dying.
