If you're concerned with commute time, you should live in LA as close as possible to your work. Seriously. Unless you have a very flexible work schedule so that you can come and go at whatever time.
Huntington Beach isn't much better than Newport Beach in terms of commuting when you're already looking at that distance, and NB is far superior to HB. NB is classy; HB has nice areas but mostly strikes me as kind of dumpy (like a great place to live if you're a surfer, but not if you're in a respectable profession).
I like Irvine a lot and went to college there. It's a nice place to live and has good public schools.
Good luck!

Well, if you're in OC, no matter what part, it'll be at least 45 mintues to L.A./West Hollywood (and that's without traffic. With traffic, you're looking at two hours or so). As far as the best places to live, Newport Beach is really great. Aliso Viejo and Laguna Nigel are also beautiful (but they can be a bit more expensive). Another nice place that's not too expensive is Irvine. Good luck and hope I helped somewhat.

Newport Beach would be a tough commute to LA! Try a more northern area, like Huntington Beach if you need to make a big commute like that.

Other than Santa Ana, which is a sanctuary city for illegal aliens, any part of Orange County is a good place to live. As far as commuting times, there are essentially only three ways into Los Angeles County from Orange County, the I-5, the I-405, and Ca 91, and none of them are much fun in the mornings.

Well, besides the commuting to Hollywoof stuff, San Clemente is rad, it still has that small town feel where strangers say Hi to each other on the street or you might chat with someone you never met for like a half hour while you're checking the waves. L.A is there if you want it, so is San Diego and Mex. Just get a motorcycle and you can get up there in no time with full on rush hour.

The best place to live in OC is outside of OC. Especially if you're commuting to LA. Do you like to live in your car or something?
