You will need a client. Azureus and Bit Comet are 2 popular ones that I know of. Both are free.

I use Azureus myself.

After you download and install the client program you can just drag and drop the torrent file into the window. It will start downloading to the location you specified in the set up.

After your file is done downloading allow it to continue uploading to other users. This is just courtesy. It will help other people download the file and is known as Seeding.

That's about it. Look about on the internet and try to mess with some settings to get the best download speeds. Good luck.

Once you get it working you'll wonder why you ever had problems with it:p

BitTorrent runs on the infamous torrent protocol. It's like Peer 2 Peer but instead on one person connected to another, it's more like one person connected to a swarm~

Everyone who is running a torrent file (which you get from website and stuff) will connect to a tracker. As long as this tracker lives, you can download from the people who has your requested file.

But you'll need Seeders. Seeders are people that have 100% of the file. So they don't need to download. Instead they upload the file to whoever needs them. The people who needs them are called Leechers. Leechers get files from others to complete theirs'. Leechers can even send incomplete parts of the files to other leechers that needs them.

This is the advantage of torrent. Sometime a seeder can be borned from multiple leechers as those multiple leechers' files make up a complete file.

Lastly, to run torrent, you'll need a bittorrent client. There's many out there. Below are a few well-known bittorrent client.

Download and install a bittorent client such as BitCommet. After you install the client, then download the .torrent file (can be found at torrent search sites) and open it with your client (BitCommet). Once you open it it will search for available seeds and download the file as it becomes available.
