They talked about the whole tire issue last night on Inside Nextel Cup, on SPEED TV. The panel, which consists of Greg Bifle, Kenny Schrader and Mikey all said that an official stopping a tire when it comes directly to them is normal, they've done that same thing for every driver at some point. The whole reason for having officials down there in the first place is to make pit stops and the crews safer. If the official can prevent a potential accident situation from happening without going out of their way to do it, they will. It's not like he went running after the thing. Now on to Atlanta, Jimmie Johnson has the best average finish here over the last 3 years, a 5.2. Neither of the Busch Bros. does particularly good at Atlanta but Kyle does fair slightly better than Kurt. Jeff Gordon is always a threat at Atlanta or pretty much anywhere else he goes. A couple of Roush guys like this track, Biffle and Edwards (got his first victory here) but look for RCR (namely Burton) and Stewart to contend for the win. I think Jimmie is running on some big momentum right now and Chad Knaus is making the right calls since Daytona. Look for him to be in the top 5 this week with the chance for him to be battling Gordon for the win again. I'm not a big Smoke fan but I really feel he will be strong this week also.
According to Jeff Hammond and other cup drivers they do stop tires for other crews if they can, without penalizing them. It's a common sense safety issue not favoritism.

A mute point whether Johnson deserved to win or not. He did. It is true that NASCAR officials sometimes help out in the pits, but most complaints are NASCARS consistency. Whether Hendricks cars do good at Atlanta, why not? It seems to me that Hendricks is on NASCARS payroll, so I don't know why any team without a connection to either Hendrick or NASCAR just don't stay home or better yet start their own division. The bottom line is that every team should be given a fair shake and treated equally, not just those that have CONvincing bank accounts.

Officials stop tires every week. It's everybody's job to help prevent potential hazards. I worked 6 years at The Glen, & can tell you firsthand that this is the rule rather than an exception. Jimmie had the strongest car.
As far as Atlanta, the Hendrick cars will be a force to be reckoned with. Other good bets would be Jeff Burton & Tony Stewart. Bobby Labonte always runs well there, so long as the equipment holds up.

If you win, you win. And, Atlanta has always been good to Gordon. I think he will be in the points lead after Sunday. Kyle Busch, he drives like a man who just stole some shine and if he drives that way at Atlanta, he won't be around at the end. Jimmie, somehow, lady luck follows him around.

No one is doubting that Johnson's car was better, the point is the official stopped the tire that got away. The officials can not stop or interfere with the events of the race.
In the past officials have stepped out of the way and let tires roll, but Sunday the official stopped the tire.Sveral media sources have stated that that was not the correct thing to do by the official, but it's too late now to do anything but it is clear that the tire was stopped and the official should have never touched the equipment.
Congrats Jimmie ond good luck.

Jimmie had a good car, he's a great driver, but he only won because he got lucky. If the official hadn't stopped that tire, he wouldn't have won. He needed the help of the NASCAR official to win the race. And since luck is a part of racing then I don't begrudge him the win. But luck will turn bad if he keeps depending on it.

Hendrick Motorsports will be good at Atlanta. I see all of them running in the top 20 this weekend. The one car that could beat them is Kasey Kahne in the #9.

No! He did not deserve the win, but when you look back most of the Hendrick cars win by means of officials help or when caught cheating nothing happens, no points taken and everyone knows that HMS can afford any monetary fine that Nascar hands out. It is an unwritten law that you do not mess with the Hendrick drivers. Brian Vickers was not fined for his bump at talladega, Jeff Gordon was not fined for his car being set up wrong, Kyle Bush is not fined for wrecking and JJ is not fined for tires running out of pit box........need I say more??? Oh, Yeah, Chad Knaus was sent home last year.........lost NO points.!!

it still should have been a penalty and he should have had to restart at the back if it had been any other driver they would have been hit with a penalty yes he was good all day and the hendricks cars will be good this week and probally every week so they dont need help from the officials like they got this weekend i would not have a issue with it if nascar would give the same breaks to the rest of the drivers

I'm a DEI fan but the win was justified. The tire carrier tripped and thats why he lost control of the other tire. Not too sure about your predictions but we will have to see. As I said I am a JR fan so my heart says we'll be seeing BUDWEISER in Victory Lane.
