It causes more harm. It puts off the perception that adoption is easy. These celebrities are able to go through a process very quickly without having to follow the rules that everyone else does (i.e. Madonna being granted special permission that she doesn't have to live in the country as other parents do for a designated time).
Adoption is a wonderful journey, but it is a difficult one. These celebrities make it appear as if you can just snap your fingers and find a child a home. That isn't true - but wouldn't it be great if it were?!

I really hate to hear the negative words associated with adoption. It is a wonderful thing, however, when situations with celebrities adopting are questionable, "because of the media", it casts a less than positive light on many situations surrounding the adoption process. Meaning, it causes agencies, lawyers, social workers, etc., to really follow the rules, which they should "in the first place", and therefore, may cause delays in the adoption process for us "normal folk" in our process of trying to fulfill the dream of becoming parents.

first off, I agree with nothing madonna does! With re: to celebs adopting overseas, I believe they are giving children a chance at a better life. Infants in this country are more than likely to be adopted due to demand and cost!

I think it depends on WHY the child was adopted. If the celebrity is looking to adopt a child b/c it's "cool" that is wrong no matter how much material wealth the star can provide. A child is a human being and deserves to be wanted for him/herself no matter where s/he's from.
I can't speak on Madonna's motives b/c I don't personally know her.

What harm can it cause? Children are children no matter where they come from. At least in this country the children who aren't adopted are taken care of instead of starving.

With all the foster children we have here, I find it appalling. They do this for publicity and nothing more. Once this child is school age she'll have it in daycare and will be off to Africa, China, or Iraq for another poor little child.

Colleen is an idiot ... and she makes no sense.
to answer the question, i believe it would depend on the situation. if the child was in a horrible situation, it might be good. i don't think all celebrities are harmful or potentially bad 'rents.

Don't know, don't care, it's HER life HER decision, she is a human being just like the rest of us and is entitled to live her personal life as she wants. I have no more of an opinion of her adopting overseas kids than I do my cousin and his wife and their two Korean kids.

i do think its great they are adopting helping getting children good homes but i just dont understand why people (clebs or not) feel they need to go to other countries, we have plenty here in the states that need good homes.
